One of the more popular spa chemicals is chlorine, which you'll need to purify the water. If you do not use chlorine or something similar, then your water likely won't be safe to soak in.

Whenever you drain the spa, you'll also want to get the right chemicals to clean the actual tub. This will remove any lingering impurities that have fastened themselves to the tub. But once you've used the chemicals, just be certain to wash away the residue before refilling.
